Welcome, David!

David Semwogerere has joined the Department of Geoscience and Petroleum on a 3-year PhD program in the field of Drilling and Wells.

His project is titled “Well Integrity and Lifecyle Management – Data Analytics approach” with an objective to develop a computer-based artificial intelligence system, or a system of systems for offshore well integrity and life cycle management for the Brazilian and Norwegian Continental Shelves.

Sigbjørn Sangesland (Professor in Well Engineering) is the main supervisor while Alexey Pavlov (Professor in Petroleum Cybernetics) and Jørn Vatn (Professor in RAMS) are co-supervisors for the project.

 This project is in collaboration with Petrobras as an industry partner under the BRU21 program; an NTNU Research and Innovation Program in Digital and Automation Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry.

Besides industry roles in Drilling and Completion, David holds MSc. Petroleum Engineering (Drilling Technology) and BSc. Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) degrees.

Veronica Torres – BRU21 research

Verónica Torres is a PhD student in BRU21 – NTNU’s Research and Innovation Program in Digital and Automation Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry. She develops digital tools to efficiently organize and automatically analyze well log data. The objective is to increase data analysis efficiency in exploration workflows through modern computational methods, e.g. machine learning and artificial intelligence, combined with cross-disciplinary subsurface expertise.

VISIT TO IGP FROM CHINA UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM BEIJING (CUPB)

IGP’s Head of Department, Egil Tjåland, welcomed a delegation from the China University of Petroleum Bejing earlier today. Professor Zhang Laibin, President of CUPB, led the delegation. The visit was part of a larger trip to NTNU, including meetings with the Department of Marine Technology. The delegation has also met with NTNU’s leadership, and a memorandum of understanding has been signed between President Zhang and Bjarne Foss, Pro-Rector for Research at NTNU. CUPB is first-tier national university of China, and focuses on education and research within both traditional energy fields, and new outreach to sustainable and renewable energy. We look forward to increased cooperation between our two institutions.

Jentedagen 2018

Institutt for geovitenskap og petroleum var tilstede på Jentedagen 2018! Denne dagen er for jenter som går siste året på videregående, og som har interesse for realfag og teknologi.

Takk til IGPs studentene Martine Baklien, Vilde Moi, Trine Remmen og Halvor Tobro som stilte opp med aktiviteter på arrangementet som ble holdt i Realfagbygget på fredag 16.februar. På stand fikk elevene prøve mikroskopering, se på mineraler, borekjerner og råolje.

Husk! 15.april er søknadsfrist for høyere utdanning

Geologistudier ved NTNU benytter i stor grad feltundervisning og ekskursjoner i undervisningen. Dette er en nyttig og interessant måte å lære om naturen og om de geologiske prosessene, og er svært populær blant studentene.Instituttet tilbyr studier innen tekniske geofag, petroleumsfag og bachelor i geologi! avsethVår prof. II Per Avseth sammen med Reidar Müller har et innlegg i dagens utgave av Dagens Næringsliv om verdens økende energibehov og oljens viktige rolle. Et viktig poeng i innlegget er vår livsstils åpenbare sløsing med energi. Fremfor å angripe oljeselskapene for deres produksjon av olje, bør vi gjøre noe med vårt forbruk.
