Carlos Alberto Aizprua Luna defended his PhD thesis

Carlos Alberto Aizprua Luna has successfully defended his PhD thesis at the Department of Geoscience and Petroleum. The title of the academic thesis was: «Forearc crustal structure and controlling factors on basin formation across the southernmost Northern Andes»

Hennes avhandling har tittelen «The contribution of mafic-ultramafic mineral sources to magnetic anomalies» (Abstract). Bedømmingskomiteen har bestått av Dr. David Alan Clark, CSIRO, Australia,  Professor France Lagroix, Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, Frankrike og professor II Christine Fichler, NTNU. Prøveforelesningen hadde tittelen“Applications of magnetic gradiometry in geosciences”. Hovedveileder har vært professor Suzanne McEnroe, og medveileder forsker Nathan Stewart Church, begge IGP, NTNU.

Defence of Thesis: Solveig Vassenden


Friday April 5.th, Solveig Vassenden defended her thesis. Vassenden has submitted the following academic thesis as a part of the doctoral work at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of geoscience and Petroleum «Rock Breaking under Rolling TBM Disc Cutters in Hard Rock Conditions – Visualization and documentation of cracks»

Hans avhandling har tittelen «Geophysical Mapping and Paleomagnetic Study of the Leka Ophiolite Complex». Bedømmingskomiteen har bestått av professor Kenneth P. Kodama, Lehigh University, USA, forsker Trond Slagstad, NGU, professor Mai Brit Mørk, NTNU og professor Per Terje Osmundsen, NTNU. Prøveforelesningen hadde tittelen “Obtaining a paleomagnetic pole from an ancient igneous body or suite of sedimentary rocks: fundamentals and applications”. Hans avhandling har tittelen «Modeling and Characterizing Acoustic Signals from Cavity Clouds Generated by Marine Seismic Air-Gun Arrays – Implications for Marine Mammals». Bedømmingskomiteen har bestått av Professor Michele Pipan, University of Trieste, professor Tor Arne Johansen, UiB og professor Børge Arntsen, Institutt for geovitenskap og petroleum, NTNU. Prøveforelesningen hadde tittelen “Numerical simulation of seismic wavefields”. Lucas Shibo Xu har disputert

Avhandlingen hans har tittelen “Seismic Data Processing in Orthorhombic Anisotropic Media”. Bedømmingskomiteen har bestått av Professor Dirk Gajewski, Universitetet i Hamburg, Principle Research Geophysicist Vetle Vinje, CGG, og Adjuct Professor Ketil Hokstad, NTNU. Prøveforelesningen hadde tittelen “Maslov asymptotic theory and its applications”. Hovedveileder har vært Professor Alexey Stovas, Institutt for geovitenskap og petroleum og medveileder Professor Tariq Alkhalifah, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.

Eirik Hexeberg Henriksen har disputert

Hans avhandling har tittelen «System Design for the Next Generation Subsea IMR Vehicles». Bedømmingskomiteen har bestått av Repsol Project Team Research Associate Marta Dueñas Diez, The Rowland Institute at Harvard, forskningssjef Gunleiv Skofteland, Equinor og førsteamanuensis Milan Stanko, NTNU. Prøveforelesningen hadde tittelen “Recent advances and state of the art in through-water communication systems”. Hovedveileder har vært professor Tor Berge Gjersvik, Institutt for geovitenskap og petroleum og medveileder professor Ingrid Schjølberg, Institutt for marin teknologi,  begge NTNU

Yuriy Ivanov har disputert

Hans avhandling har tittelen: «Kinematic Attributes in Tilted Orthorhombic Media». Bedømmingskomiteen har bestått av Dr. Ivan Pšenčik, Institute of Geophysics – Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Professor Zvi Koren, Tel-Aviv University og professor II Ketil Hokstad, NTNU. Prøveforelesningen hadde tittelen: “Exploration for blind geothermal systems”. Hovedveilederen har vært professor Alexey Stovas, Institutt for geovitenskap og petroleum, NTNU og medveileder professor Tariq Alkhalifah, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia.

Avhandlingens tittel er «Study of cuttings transport using oil-based and water-based drilling fluids». Bedømmingskomiteen har bestått av Associate Professor Evren Ozbayoglu, University of Tulsa, Bore- og kompletteringsleder Tor Henry Omland, Statoil og førsteamanuensis Sigve Hovda, NTNU. Prøveforelesningen hadde tittelen «The criticality of particle size monitoring during drilling operations». Hovedveileder har vært professor Pål Skalle, og medveileder professor James Dawson, Institutt for energi- og prosessteknologi.
