Bikash Chaudhary has joined the Department of Geoscience and Petroleum at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) to undertake a 3-year PhD-project in the field of Engineering Geology under the project «NoRSTRESS». His supervisor is Krishna Kanta Panthi (Professor, Department of Geoscience and Petroleum – Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU).
Bikash’s research aims at seeking a better understanding of the rock mass’ inherent, natural stresses for sustainable development of hydropower. His work will focus on engineering geological issues related to the “Development of the-state-of-the-art design guideline based on analysing past failure and successful cases of unlined pressure tunnels and shafts of hydropower plants”.
The project is funded by the Norwegian research council in cooperation with SINTEF, NTNU, Hafslund E-CO Energi AS, Hydro Energi AS, Sira-Kvina kraftselskap DA, Skagerak Kraft AS, Statkraft AS.
Bikash has M.Sc. in Hydropower Development from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, NTNU. He has worked as a hydropower engineer/design engineer in a hydropower consulting firm in Nepal for 5 years.
